Renfrewshire Leisure has received £45,866 in funding to enable Paisley Arts Centre to develop and deliver an artist in residence programme that will support an established artist to develop new work for children over five and their families, providing opportunities for local children and young people to participate in the arts.
The new piece will be premiered at Paisley Arts Centre as part of Paisley’s established Spree festival, during Scotland’s Year of Young People in 2018.
Morag Macpherson, Head of Cultural Services at Renfrewshire Leisure states ‘We are delighted to have been awarded Open Project Funding by Creative Scotland. With Paisley's bid to become UK City of Culture 2021 and with the residency work to be developed and performed during Scotland's Year of Young People in 2018, there could be no better time to bring the production of original theatre for children and young people back to Paisley Arts Centre. This residency will create fantastic opportunities for children and families in Renfrewshire to be involved in new theatre experiences.’
Creative Scotland has awarded over £800,000 National Lottery funding through the Open Project Fund in May 2017 to 45 recipients, including individual artists, musicians, fashion designers, writers, poets, theatre makers, festivals and organisations working across the arts, screen and creative industries. From the £800,000 Paisley Arts Centre has been awarded £45,866.
Janet Archer, CEO at Creative Scotland said: ‘Collectively, these projects will reach hundreds of thousands of people across Scotland and beyond, sparking imagination and stimulating creativity.
Whilst also enabling our artists to develop their creative practice and enrich Scotland’s reputation as a distinctive creative nation.
While, as always, there are many more good applications than we have the funds to support, these latest awards do provide invaluable support to the successful applicants and we look forward to seeing their work develop as a result.’
