Theatre

The Green Room Sessions are a Paisley Arts Centre and Renfrewshire Leisure artist-led initiative that aims to host regular, discipline specific, meet-ups for theatre and performance artists / creative freelancers who work or live in or around Renfrewshire. The goal is to network, share resources, collaborate, support each other and cultivate a rich and thriving professional arts scene in the Renfrewshire area.

As we navigate a post-COVID recovery period these events will be online initially but the hope is to move into an embodied setting with these in early 2022. While Paisley's cultural venues are closed for a vital refurbishment, the Green Room Sessions aim to provide a stable artistic home in the form of community and connection. They will also provide an opportunity to be dialled into the creative opportunities and plans of the Renfrewshire Leisure Cultural Service.

The Green Room Sessions are a formal evolution of the digital meet-ups that took place over the course of the year. Certain focused gatherings featured special guests such as theatre director Debbie Hannan and writer / director Sandy Thomson.

The Green Room Sessions have (but are not limited to) the following goals:

  • To cultivate a rich and thriving professional arts scene in the Renfrewshire area.
  • To establish a creative home and community.
  • To allow Renfrewshire based artists / creatives who bring work to / work in Renfrewshire, to develop practise, network and nurture new collaborative relationships.
  • To share resources and opportunities.
  • Connect directly with the Renfrewshire Leisure Arts Team about your work, ideas and practise.
  • Create a platform for the wider industry to directly connect with the Renfrewshire cultural scene through guest speakers and opportunities to connect with national companies and producers.
  • To create new opportunities and promote the excellent work being made by artists in and around Renfrewshire.
  • To inspire and generally support each other.

Our first Meet Up of 2022 will be a Visual Artist and Craft Maker Award (VACMA) Showcase and Info Session. This will be held on Microsoft Teams on Tuesday the 11th of January at 5pm.

With the current round of VACMA opening for applications in January - we thought it would be useful to invite local artists to come together to hear more about the fund and have the opportunity to get support with their applications.

We’ll be joined by previous awardees who will chat briefly about their VACMA applications and give an insight into what they used their awards for and how their VACMA grant benefitted their practice.

If you have any questions or access requirements, please get in touch with the Visual Arts Producer Lorna Spada lornaspada@renfrewshire.gov.uk

The Meet Up is open to all practising visual artists and craft makers based in Renfrewshire - and you are welcome to join even if you are not thinking of applying to the VACMA fund.
