The Voices of Our Town – Online Creative Workshop Series

In Motion Theatre are a new writing theatre company who write and tour their own work and support and nurture the writing of others in both a professional and community setting. They will be touring their new play Other Side of The River by Lisa Nicoll either at theatres or in a digital format in 2021. Other Side of the River is a co-production between In Motion Theatre Company, Renfrewshire Leisure and the Paisley Arts Centre, made possible by Renfrewshire Council’s Future Paisley programme.

The play is inspired by Ferguslie Park where Lisa has been working with local residents to write a story that reflects the real community that exists there, instead of the stories that have been presented in the media and in newspapers.

Lisa and In Motion are delighted to be working with the Renfrewshire Leisure Arts Team to offer a series of online creative workshops in creative writing, dance and music, to the residents of Ferguslie, Paisley and wider Renfrewshire. These workshops will complement and inspire next years production of Other Side of the River and allow participants a chance to be part of the journey of the play and have their creative voices heard.

No previous experience necessary.

Online - Dance Workshops

These workshops offer a set of recorded online Swing Dance sessions and live zoom workshops to build together a short dance routine to keep energy and spirit going, to learn new skills and with the opportunity to be part of a community cast of new play Other Side of the River by Lisa Nicoll which will either tour to theatre’s or digitally when times are safe.

The sessions will be hosted by director and swing dance teacher of In Motion Theatre Allie Butler and will be short, fun and achievable!

At the end of the sessions there will be an opportunity for you to share your routine on our social media platforms so we can see the faces behind those dance steps.

The workshops will start Tuesday 13th October online once a week with both recorded and live sessions and the last session will be on Tuesday 1st of December. The beauty with the recorded ones is you can do these at your own pace!

The Dance workshops will consist of;

  • Three initial short recorded practical writing sessions.
  • A live online session with group participants
  • Three more short recorded practical writing sessions
  • A second live online session with group participants
