We are very proud to announce that Renfrewshire Leisure’s School Libraries Support Coordinator and School Librarian, Clare Hemsworth, has been shortlisted by CILIPS (Scotland’s Library and Information Specialists) for the prestigious Library and Information Professional of the Year award.
This award celebrates a person’s overall contribution towards the library profession in Scotland. Clare was nominated for her fantastic dedication to creating a forward-looking school library service in Renfrewshire with the needs of young people at its heart. This included her recent digital ventures during the 2020 lockdown - including her creation of the Renfrewshire Libraries island on the Nintendo Switch Animal Crossing game.
Digital and Library Development Manager Joyce Higgins said,
“This nomination and short-listing is very well deserved. Clare is a great asset to the School Libraries Team. She is a dedicated professional who uses her skills and enthusiasm to find creative ways to inspire young people to find joy in reading.”
“I’m really honoured to be nominated for this award. School librarians play a hugely important role in schools and I really enjoy thinking of ways to improve the service that we can offer the young people using our libraries. Everything I do as part of my work for school libraries is done very much collaboratively and I have the best colleagues anyone could possibly have in both the school libraries team and the wider libraries team.”
The winner will be announced in October at the CILIPS conference. In addition to the award, the prize winner will be given £500 of funding to be used towards their own professional development in 2021.
Good luck Clare!
