The Renfrewshire Leisure Secondary Dance Competition recently took place on Thursday 22nd of March 2018.
The Renfrewshire Schools Dance Competition is a new choreography competition for young people in our high schools. This year we are celebrating the Year of the Young People and this event directly promotes and nurtures our young people.
The Dance Competition provides young people with a platform on which to present and perform their own choreography.
The competition was open to all 11 Secondary Schools in Renfrewshire and was organised and run by Emily Gallacher (PE at Renfrew) Olivia Bell and Donnie Wood (Sports Services, active schools team). The fun fuelled and healthy competition took place with the following participating schools, St Andrews Academy, Park Mains High School, Linwood High, St Benedicts, Renfrew High School, Johnstone High and Gleniffer.
To judge our performances we had 3 qualified experienced judges who judged each category from a set criterion. This included sections, Junior, Senior and Mixed.
Our aim was to increase mass participation and involve as many young people as possible from all year groups. We wanted to capture the same age groups working alongside each other to promote an element of team work.
Our winning schools showed team work, a variety of movement, travel and choreography that catered for every team member. The performances showed an element of fun and focused on having a connection with the audience. A final well done to our winning schools, St Andrews, Gleniffer and Johnstone High and a massive well done to all other participating schools.
We hope to continue this new legacy and continue to foster our young people and have them at the heart of our planning and future events.
