Renfrewshire Leisure Active Schools has just hosted the Renfrewshire Para Sport Games event for 2018.
The event took place of the 5th & 6th of June at the ONX Leisure Centre in Linwood. The 2 day event was a huge success with events held for both our primaries and secondary’s, hosting to over 180 pupils. The event aims to promote the health and wellbeing of children and young people with physical, sensory or learning disabilities. Through participation in sport and physical activity whilst developing and maintaining the social wellbeing of our children and young people this also aims to provide community club links. Participants of all abilities were invited and had the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sports and activities on the day.
We were welcomed by a number of schools on each day including, Woodlands, Kirklandeuk, RiverBrae, Mary Russel, Castlehead, Park Mains and Paisley Grammar. Pupils were awarded a medal for star performer on the day chosen by their team sports leader. We were also welcomed by a number of volunteers on the day. We had sports leaders from Park Mains, Castlehead, Linwood and Johnstone High. Our event would not be able to run without our volunteers and we appreciate all the time and effort given.
We are extremely thankful to all the clubs who come along to each event and provide the opportunity for the children and young people to experience their activity. The activites varied from bowls, dance, rugby, football, judo, karate, tennis and basketball. A number of the local clubs come and help at this event annually. A massive thank you to Strathgryffe Tennis, Bishopton Bowls, Basketball Paisley, Shitokai Karate Club, Connor Wilson from Clyde Judo and to the rest of our coaches who volunteered.
We hope everyone enjoyed the fun filled and busy day. Fingers crossed the sun makes an appearance for next year’s event.
