Last Thursday 25th February the annual Renfrewshire Schools Primary Schools Cross Country Championships took place at a very cold Renfrew King George V Playing Fields, Renfrew for Primary 6 and 7 pupils.
The event saw a record of 777 pupils complete the courses from 34 local primary schools from Renfrewshire Council
The event was organised by Renfrewshire Sports Services, Active Schools Team in partnership with Kilbarchan AAC and West College Scotland volunteers.
The event is a great opportunity for pupils to participate in athletics and to meet up with other young people from all over Renfrewshire , the event is used as an introduction to Cross Country running for many schools, and for some a with a pathway to the National Schools event which takes place in Kirkcaldy in April.
Active Schools and Community Club Development Officer Andrew Mitchell said,
"It was fantastic to see so many pupils from across Renfrewshire coming together at one venue to take part in a great event and to represent their schools. Many thanks has to go to all schools staff who accompanied the pupils to the event on the day and Kilbarchan Athletic Club and West College Scotland volunteers The level of enjoyment, competition and sportsmanship on display was outstanding, even with the severe weather on the day. A total of 777 pupils completed the course which is the highest numbers we have ever had “
