We are delighted to see our S1 volleyball teams achievements this year having only taken up the sport in August. The girls finishing runners up at the West of Scotland prior to Christmas and more recently with the fantastic achievement of winning the Scottish Cup. The boys have also performed well finishing runners up at the West of Scotland along with reaching the semi finals of the Scottish Cup.
The pupils have proved the old saying correct “you only get out of something what you put in”, with their dedication to 8am before school training sessions and additional lunchtime practice.
More importantly, I hope their success encourages more of our young people to get involved.
Thanks again to Andy Fleming (Volleyball RDO) who gave taster sessions back in August to whole s1 year group. Finally thanks to Miss Docherty & David Rose (Active Schools) who have helped with the teams throughout the year.
Mr Telfer (St Andrews Academy PE)
It is amazing to see the level of devotion and determination from these first year pupils who had very little to no volleyball experience. It was even better to see them grow from strength to strength to eventually compete in the Scottish Cup semi-finals and finals. The final itself was nail biting to say the least and the girls held their nerve to become very deserving winners, to say I am proud is an understatement!
It is so rewarding to see young talent being recognised and encouraged. The volleyballers are now looking to play at club level to enhance their volleyball abilities even further.
Miss Docherty (St Andrews Academy PE)
Massive congratulations to Sinead McCormick, Victoria Murdoch and Zara Neil for becoming S1 Volleyball Scottish Cup Champions! They had no volleyball experience prior to coming to high school
