Senior residents of Bridge of Weir enjoyed a visit from Renfrewshire Leisure’s expert Fitness Instructors to help them keep active and get moving.
The fitness fans got together at Freeland Church on Main Street for an afternoon of low-impact exercise taster sessions, lead by RL Instructors Jennifer, Lynne and Carol.
Kicking off with a Vitality Circuit Session, the group worked their way around an array of workouts to build strength and increase balance. The afternoon also included a popular fun-fitness class known as 'Chair Zumba'. One woman explained:
“It’s amazing how much energy you can use while sitting down!"
The sessions concluded with a Ballroom Fitness Class, lead by Jennifer, where participants enjoyed a blend of Ballroom Dancing combined with aerobic moves to get the blood flowing and joints moving.
Irene McFarlane, Coordinator for the Freeland Church, said:
“It’s so much busier than we thought it would be, it really shows there’s a market for these activities. The day’s been very successful and I’ve even seen a few new faces around the Church. It’s really spreading the word for what’s on offer, as there’s nothing like this in Bridge of Weir.”
Joyce McKellar, chief executive of Renfrewshire Leisure, who organised the free senior activity day said:
“We’re keen to show that sport and activity isn’t just for the youngsters. There are plenty of things let’s say, the more mature members of the public can do to keep fit, active and healthy and we aim to provide them with every opportunity to do just that.
We organised this taster session to give people an insight into the type of activities on offer from Renfrewshire Leisure and as well as being good for mind and body, the activities were also lots of fun to do.”
