Recognition from sportscotland
Congratulations to Park Mains High School Young Ambassadors Rachel Howie and Colin Thomas - sportscotland Young Ambassadors of the Month for April 2019.
Prior to being selected as YAs, Rachel and Colin were already heavily involved in the provision of sport at Park Mains.
Since taking on their roles the pair have increased their responsibilities with Colin now leading primary aged football and athletics clubs every Friday night.
Rachel, delivers badminton at the community club every Friday and also helps with an after-school gymnastics club. She has also taken on an after-schools badminton club at her high school and coaches one session per week at one of Park Mains cluster primary schools. This month Rachel was part of the schools 'Digi-Inventors' team that reached the national finals in Glasgow after creating an app to increase the participation in physical activity with Park Mains pupils.
The pair have been heavily involved in the PE department's Interhouse Programme, helping to deliver the school's Cross-Country Championship, basketball and volleyball tournaments and most recently playing a massive role in the creation and running of their Easter event, based on the popular tv programme The Cube.
As part of the Renfrewshire YA team, Rachel and Colin have had a massive role in organising the Renfrewshire School of Sport Education graduation that took place at the end of March in Paisley Abbey. The pair were responsible for hospitality, greeting graduating guests and parents, handling money and ushering people to their seats.
Rachel and Colin are keen to take their Young Ambassador roles in to fifth year and will continue contributing massively to the provision of sport within the Park Mains cluster.
As a charity, our services help people live healthy, happy and fulfilled lives. A donation to Renfrewshire Leisure will help us continue to provide charitable services across our communities.
