Congratulations to St Benedict’s High School YAs, Marta and Gemma, who are Young Ambassadors of the Month for June!
Gemma and Marta have set up St Benedict’s first ever sports council, planned and chaired every meeting. They run a weekly lunch time club that has over 60 participants, which delivers sport sessions as well as educating pupils in healthy eating and healthier lifestyle. In addition, they have planned and hosted multiple events including clubbercise classes for staff and a cross country event for the school.
They have both played a key role in the transition of last year and this year’s P7s into St Benedict’s, and mentor a team of young volunteers that also support with this role. The girls have hosted the Our Lady of Peace Primary’s fun run at the school, and planned and delivered part of their health week. They have also been involved with advertising and recruiting for next year’s Young Ambassadors. Between them, Gemma and Marta have volunteered over 1000 hours for their high school and in the community, and have volunteered at various Active Schools events, included the Road Race and Cross Country.
Their Active Schools Coordinator, Lynsey Dawson, said “Marta and Gemma are well thought of, positive and responsible in their roles as Young Ambassadors, and they will be greatly missed at St Benedict’s. I can honestly say no one deserves the recognition more than these two girls!”
