What's Your Goal? To Run 2 Marathons in a Week!


For many people, the thought of running one marathon is daunting enough, however, for Nicola Jackson; her goal is to complete two in the space of seven days.

Nicola, alongside her training partner, Deborah White, will be tackling the iconic Virgin Money London Marathon on the 22nd of April before returning to Scotland for the challenging Stirling Marathon on the 29th of April.

Nicola said, “We have been running together for a few years now and have completed four marathons and one ultra marathon between us.

“This challenge ups the ante for us as we undertake two marathons in seven days.  I went down to London last year to cheer on my friends Lucy and Deborah; I loved the atmosphere and thought to myself I’m applying this year as I want to be a part of it.  I also really enjoyed the Stirling Marathon and I am excited to test the new layout.”

In school, Nicola was a long distance runner competing in 1500m and cross-country events.  However, when she had her children, she found it difficult to find time to dedicate to running. 

In April 2016, when her youngest started primary one, she was determined to get back to the sport. Since starting back up, Nicola has lost 3.5 stone to go along with the enjoyment she has gained from being back.

While much of her current training is outdoor, she also takes part in weekly personal training at Johnstone Community Sports Hub and aerobic fitness classes. 

Whenever possible, Nicola trains with her friend Deborah, she said, “Having Deborah to train with is fantastic for all sorts of reasons.  We are tackling this challenge together and having someone to encourage you when you need it most is vital and will be extremely vital during the Marathons themselves.”

Nicola is running for VICTA, a charity that supports children and young people who are blind or partially sighted and their families across the UK.

Nicola added, “VICTA organises activities designed to improve the emotional, social and living skills of the children and young people that they support and we are proud to support this amazing charity.”

Nicola will also be running the Glasgow Half Marathon, the Dunoon Half Marathon and the Paisley 10K later this year.
